The invasion of lands not intended for construction by a number of familiesis now taking place in the city of Safi, south Casablanca, where domestic authorities reinforced by security men and bulldozers, demolished 9 illegal houses built without permits, Wednesday at dawn. Crowds stationed before the bulldozers tried to prevent the authorities from taking down the rest of the buildings. It is noted that some of these areas, which are in the vicinity of chemical labs, were allocated by Urban Planning in the city to be green areas, where several reforestation operations are carried out to protect the people of the south from the possible air contamination caused by the chemical labs.   While invading these lands, of approximately 36 hectares estimated area, invaders divided the area into spots, of which each ranges between 100 and 150 m².  Anarchist builders took decided on the numbers of floors to be raised in each building, in addition to dividing and selling land spots among them. The construction laws in Morocco criminalize such acts, setting strict financial penalties, jail sentences, or sometimes both on the offenders. In view of these invasions on state-owned lands and public property, political sources told ‘Arabstoday’ that these chaotic operations are orchestrated by Al-Adl wal Ihsane semi-outlawed Islamist group, following the occurrence of similar incidents in Tangier, where the chaos was only resolved by the intervention of the Moroccan army and security forces. Sources explained to ‘Arabstoday’ that inciting chaos against PJD’s government, led by PM Abdelilah Benkirane, is an attempt to arm-twist the government by the Islamists who refuse to partake in politics.
