According to a member of the Central Committee of Fatah, Azzam Al Ahmad, President Abbas told Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi that the reconciliation between Hamas and Fateh is "frozen" because Hamas has banned the Palestinian Election Committee from working in Gaza, adding that the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas did not ask President Mohammed Morsi to put pressure on Hamas to complete the reconciliation, saying that relations between Fatah and Hamas have not been severed. “I met the head of the political bureau of Hamas, Khaled Meshaal,  Dr Moussa Abu Marzouk and a delegation from Hamas before Abbas’s meeting with Morsi in Cairo,” ... “there will be no meeting with Hamas until they allow the Central Electoral Committee to work in Gaza.” He emphasised the importance of adhering to what had been agreed to regarding the reconciliation, adding that the terms of the reconciliation are clear, and do not need further dialogue, but that there was a need to continue the work of the election committee in Gaza. Al Ahmad also talked about Syria warning that Palestinians should not to be drawn into the events taking place in Syria. President Abbas has been on an official  2-day visit to Cairo, during which he met President Mohammed Morsi and a number of Egyptian officials.
