King Salman also congratulated Trump on the quick defeat of Daesh in Mosul

US President Donald Trump spoke by phone with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia, on Friday to discuss efforts to resolve the month-long dispute between Qatar and four Gulf Arab states, the White House said.

The phone call followed a visit to the region by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. Saudi Arabia and three other Arab states cut ties with Qatar over allegations it funds extremist groups and is allying with their arch-foe Iran. Qatar denies this.

During the call, King Salman also congratulated the US president Donald Trump on the quick defeat of Daesh in Iraq's northern city of Mosul, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The King also expressed appreciation to the US role in leading the coalition to fight such a terrorist organization, praising the great achievements in combatting terrorism early in Trump's presidency, report said.
