Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Imad Fakhoury, Monday, stressed the importance of renewing the memorandum of understanding which governs the U.S. assistance to Jordan for the next 5 years.
The minister made the remarks as he met with a U.S. House of Representatives delegation led by head of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.
During the meeting, the minister emphasized the importance of the aid in supporting the budget and certain sectors, to ensure stimulating the national economy in accordance with Jordan Economic Growth Plan 2018 – 2022.
“The continued U.S. economic support to Jordan is a proof of the advanced level of relations between the two sides that are developing thanks to the efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II to deepen cooperation with the U.S.”, said Fakhoury.
The visiting delegation expressed their country’s appreciation of Jordan’s pivotal role in the region, as well as the political and economic reforms which made the country a role model in the Middle East.
They stressed that the U.S. understands the burdens borne by Jordan, especially in the light of the influx of a large number of Syrian refugees and their impact on host communities, as well as the impact of the regional unrest on the Jordanian economy.
