His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa hailed Bahrain’s success in presenting its 3rd Universal Periodic Review (UPR) before the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Receiving Bahrain’s delegation to the UN watchdog today at Sakhir Palace, he lauded the outstanding achievement which won the accolade of participating countries.
He commended the team’s strenuous efforts to convey the true and lucid picture and highlight Bahrain’s strides and keenness on promoting the principles of human rights in all fields.
He reiterated Bahrain’s firm determination to remain committed to its deep-rooted historic legacy which, he said, embodies lofty human principles and the values of justice, right and amity between all human beings.
Bahrain was the first country to present its 3rd UPR before the 27th session of the UN Human Rights Council which started on May Day and ran until May 12, scrutinizing 14 countries’ reports.
Bahrain had the second lowest number of recommendations, out of 14 countries, after the Kingdom of Finland which topped the list.
The 60th session of the United Nations Committee against Torture, which convened on April18-May12, discussed reports parties to the convention, including Bahrain’s 2nd and 3 reports.
Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa introduced to HM the King the delegation, headed by Assistant Foreign Minister Abdulla bin Faisal Al-Dosari.
The panel includes also officials representing the foreign and interior ministries, government departments as well as the legislative branch of government.
