His Majesty King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held talks in Cairo on Wednesday, that focused on means to forge closer ties between the two countries as well as current regional issues.

During a one-on-one meeting At Al Ittiyadiya Palace that was followed by expanded talks attended by senior officials from both countries, the King and el-Sisi voiced their pride in the distinguished ties between the two countries as well as their keenness to further boost them in various fields.

During the talks, which come within the continued coordination and consultations on various regional issues, the two leaders highlighted the need to reach political solutions for crises in the region, and achieve security and stability for the region’s countries.

In this context, His Majesty stressed the key role of Egypt in serving Arab issues as well as its relentless efforts to enhance Arab cooperation.

The King and the Egyptian president also agreed to continue work to unify Arab ranks and coordinate stances, and highlighted the important role of Jordan, as a president of the Arab summit, in enhancing joint Arab cooperation to overcome challenges and crises facing the region.

They also reiterated the need to reinvigorate the peace process and launch serious and effective negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis to reach a just and permanent solutions to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solutions, the Arab Peace Initiative and international legitimacy resolutions.

The two leaders stressed the importance of preserving the status quo in Jerusalem as any changes will have grave consequences on the region’s security and stability.

King Abdullah stressed that Jordan will continue its role in defending the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and preserving the Arab identity of the city.

The talks, which were attended by top officials from both sides, also focused on the Syrian crisis and the latest developments in Iraq, Libya and Yemen.

On the war on terrorism, the two leaders affirmed the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic approach.

The Egyptian president voiced his country’s appreciation of Jordan’s stances, the King’s role in serving Arab issues and his continuous efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.

El-Sisi held a lunch banquet in honor of His Majesty and the accompanying delegation that was attended by senior Egyptian officials.

Earlier, Upon arrival at Al Ittihadiya Palace, the King received an official welcome that included a 21-gun salute by the artillery as a military band played the national anthems of the two countries.
