Alexandria – Nessrine Fouad
Dr Khaled Azab, the Director of the Department of Special Projects at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina will give a talk at the Moroccan National Library Tuesday evening. The event, held in coordination with the Egyptian embassy in Rabat, is Moroccan entitled “Is the age of libraries over?” The event will be moderated by Egyptian embassy diplomat Mohammed Abulkhair and is set to be attended by members of the Moroccan intelligentsia. The talk will touch upon the transformation of libraries from receptacles of knowledge into creators of knowledge, information centres that support the decision-making process and an educational tool in schools and universities, in addition to providing a mechanism for managing national stores of knowledge and tools. Azab is set to indicate this transformation as being behind the rise of the term “information security.” He will also survey the experience in these fields of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina as well as the National Library in Singapore. Egyptian Ambassador to Rabat, Abu Bakr Hefni, had established a series of cultural talks held in the Moroccan Kingdom and aimed at enhancing Egypt’s cultural role. The cooperation resulted in Morocco being guest of honour at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Book Fair as the Bibliotheca also gifted the Moroccan Academy a collection of its publications.
