The deadline for submitting nominations for the seventh Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences 2011-12 has been extended to the end of February, the chairman of the Scientific Committee of the award said. Extending the deadline for the award, that includes eight awards worth a total Dh2.8 million would give an opportunity to the candidates to fill out the required documents. Professor Yousuf Abdul Razzaq, chairman of the Scientific Committee of the award, said members of the committee and sub-committees reviewed the status of nominations, rules and regulations, arbitration and winners\' announcement, during a recent meeting to ensure that transparency and impartiality is maintained. There are three categories of the awards — International Awards, the Arab World Awards and the UAE Awards. Article continues below The international category has three awards. The first is the Grand Hamdan International Award, the second is the Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence, and the third is the Hamdan Award for Volunteers in Humanitarian Medical Services. Distinguished people In the Arab World Awards two winners will be announced for Best Medical College/Institute or Centre in the Arab world and two distinguished people will get the Hamdan Award for Honouring Distinguished Personalities from the Arab World. \"The third category is the UAE awards, which includes three awards. \"The first one is the Hamdan Award for an Outstanding Clinical Department in the public sector in [the] UAE, which is given to two winners. The second award is Hamdan Award for Honouring Individuals Working in the Field of Medicine and Health. The third award is the Hamdan Award for Original Research Paper Published in the Journal of Medical Sciences,\" Abdul Razzaq added.
