The State of Qatar is participating in the 23rd annual Conference

The State of Qatar is participating in the 23rd annual Conference of the Parties (COP) under the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Bonn, Germany for two weeks.

The Qatari delegation includes representatives from the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Transport and Communications and Ministry of Economy and Commerce. The delegation also includes representatives from Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, Qatar University as well as a number of Qatari university students in aim to encourage them to engage in the field of climate change and raise awareness of the community, which reflects positively on their scientific and practical progress.

The Qatari delegation will effectively participate in the meetings in addition to its efforts in strengthening the coordination with other countries during the negotiations which the State of Qatar is a member of, such as the Arab group, Group 77 and China, the group of states with similar thoughts. In addition, the delegation will participate in side events to the conference such as exhibitions, workshops and lectures which reflects the efforts exerted in the field of climate change.

The conference includes sessions for COP serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol and the second part of the first session of the COP serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement, the forty-seventh session of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice, the forty-seventh session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation and the fourth part of the first session of the Ad hoc Working Group on the Paris Agreement.

One of the most important issues to be discussed include mitigation of emissions, adaptation to climate change, the needs of developing countries for support, means for implementing climate change efforts and issues related to transparency and compliance.

This conference is an important platform for the development of appropriate paths, mechanisms, plans and programs that will enable countries to implement what was agreed upon in Paris in 2015.
