Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Development and International Co-operation, has congratulated the UAE leadership and people for the UAE being ranked as number one in the world for treating women with respect
, according to a major scientific study comparing development and well-being among all 132 nations of the world.
The Global Social Progress Index also ranked the UAE as number one for the lowest level of violent crime, the lowest homicide rate, the lowest undernourishment rate, and the highest rate of enrolment in secondary education.
'This achievement is a fruit of the women's empowerment policy which was laid down by the late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and is cherished and followed today by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, Crown Princes and Deputy Rulers,' Sheikha Lubna said.
Sheikha Lubna also credited the pivotal role H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union and of the Family Development Foundation, had played in making this achievement possible, noting H.H.'s role in supporting and advancing empowerment of women to take their effective role as partners of men in the building of the local community and the State.
She added that the UAE wise leadership had opened the door wide for women to participate in all fields of education and work, and has supported and encouraged them to take up leadership positions.
