Volkswagen Golf has won both the European and world car awards this year The new Volkswagen Golf has been named World Car of the Year at the New York Auto Show.The German car beat some top auto models such as the Porsche Boxster and Cayman, the Mercedes A-Class, the Toyota GT 86 and Subaru BR-Z sports cars to the award.
Receiving the award, Volkswagen boss Professor Martin Winterkorn said: “To win shows that the VW Golf is in a class of its own around the world. And soon the Golf will be launched as a plug-in hybrid and full electric car.”
The judging panel, comprising of 66 journalists from around the world, also voted for the Design of the Year, Performance Car of the Year and Green Car of the Year.
The new Jaguar F-Type was named design of the year, the Porsche Boxster and Cayman won the World Performance Car Award, while the Tesla Model S electric car was named World Green Car of the Year.
Earlier this month, the Volkswagen Golf was named European Car of the Year at the Geneva Motor Show.
