All about stylish day wear For Jean-Pierre Branza, it’s all about stylish day wear – for the most part. Hardly any bright colours or crazy cuts, just impeccably tailored suits, coat dresses and floaty geometric frocks.
Of course there were a few styles for a chic night out, like the pearl-encrusted black shift dress or the Star Trek-y cutout frock in clear coral, but one can see that the focus for the Spring 2012 collection is on workwear. The wardrobe staples in a neutral palette, tuxedo-inspired frocks and the sheer number of blazers and suits all point to a career-oriented customer looking to get ahead through style.
Our absolute favourite pieces from this collection are the taupe asymmetrical leather jacket and the lapelless overcoat worn as a dress and accessorised with a tribal bead necklace. The kaftan-like black and white number, accented by oversized, Aztec-inspired jewels is a definite runner-up.
It’s one of those shows where the audience could immediately see themselves wearing the complete runway looks, without thinking about lowering any hemlines or simplifying any of the more elaborate designs into wearable, non-costume pieces – which so rarely happens at London Fashion Week, when you really think about it.
