Gaza - Mohammed Habib
A scene from \'Ferkat Naji Atallah\' series
Controversy continues in Gaza following the “Ferkat Naji Atallah” (Naji Atallah Squad) series which stars veteran Egyptian actor Adel Imam in a plot based on a robbery at an Israeli bank by Naji Atallah
and his team played by youth actors.
Gaza Ghazi Murtaja gave a statement stating “the series has a lot of unprecedented “silliness” from the director of the series Ramy Imam, his father (Adel Imam) and the writer of the series.”
“I am not criticizing or giving notes on the quality of the acting or directing, there are many criticizers of that already, but what was annoying in the series is the mindset of Naji Atallah, the writer and the director in how it portrays Gaza city and the false information in the shows. I hope my message will reach the director, writer and actor Adel Imam. They should speak to anyone in Gaza to give an idea of life there and the way of we think.”
Murtaja pointed out that in the 10th episode, Naji and his squad escape through the Egypt – Gaza tunnels with a variety of people of different religions and colors. What the director, the writer and the actors don’t know is that blacks, whites and Turks are not escaping Gaza through tunnels because they can travel directly through Egyptian borders. It seems Naji Beck does not want to upset or criticize his government so they have made Gaza to blame.”
Murtaja continues “Naji and his squad portray Gaza and its people as being from the Stone Age, and the truth is totally different, Gaza is fill of construction, modern cars and new.
Palestinian activist Mohamed al-Ghazali expressed frustration at the series, “the series is dealing with the life of the Palestinian people in an inappropriate way, Palestinians do not wear the clothes the actors wear and their houses are not made of mud as the series suggests.” Mohamed al-Ghazili wrote on Twitter that the series is tarnishing the reputation of the Palestinians.
