Marrakech - Judy Sabbagh
Amitabh Bachchan has appeared in over 180 films
Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has told Arabstoday that he will walk the famous Hollywood red carpet for the first time as co-star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in "The Great Gatsby"
.Bachchan recently led an Indian delegation at the 12th Marrakech International Film Festival, in which Moroccans celebrated Indian cinema’s centenary.
Amitabh told Arabstoday, "I have discovered that Moroccans are big fans of Hindi cinema. The relationship started in the late '60s and '70s when some of the distributors settled in Marrakech and started screening Hindi films. Somehow, we were unaware of the impact our films have made here."
The actor explained that his father Harrivanscheraa Bachchan, a poet and former English literature teacher, is his idol and the "perfect role model" for him. He also disclosed that he considers his son Abhishek a great actor "because he has carved a successful career through his own talent and not his father's name."
The proud father explained that Abhishek has a large fan base in India and abroad, adding that he himself is a big fan of his son's work. "I always enjoy working with Abhishek. It is a little challenging for both of us because we forget the father and son relationship and want to outperform each other!"
Bachchan inherited his passion for American cinema from his father, and revealed his upcoming Hollywood debut in Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby," alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Toby Maguire and Carey Mulligan.
The film is scheduled for general release in May this year.
