Following the first presidential elections, Egyptian actress Hala Sedqy spoke to Arabstoday about her reaction to the new president: “I am still worried about the Islamists' role in Egypt and Morsi’s role, because Egypt
is not ready for experiments. We all got involved in the parliament experiment. I don’t know what the president is planning to do for the arts and the artist. It was enough ignoring creative freedom in his first presidential speech but what the president should know is that the Egyptian people love actors and singers and he should not ignore an important resource for the Egyptian community.”
But, she added, “I will not judge the new president quickly, the next days will be the judge. I would rather judge him what he does rather than on what he says”
About her work she explained that she was involved in two TV productions: The first one 'El Khafafesh' is a series produced by the Voice of Cairo for Audio and Video, written and directed by Ahmed El Nahaas which examines the events in Egypt before the revolution. It tells the story of a professor in college who is faced with many challenges and was involved in financial and corruption issues.
Hala added that she was also starring with actor Nour al-Sherif in the series 'Arafa El Bahr': "I play the role of his wife who is suffering but keeps silent about his multiple marriages. Despite all, she love and respect him very much.”
As for the cinema she said “I will be back soon in a feature film - I am reading the script - and it will be a huge role, but I wish the cinema would become as prosperous as television dramas this year.”
