Every year During Ramadan

Every year During Ramadan, some people accuse the broadcasted series of violating Ramadan manners for their harsh words, bold scenes and their themes. For example, “This evening” series starring Iyad Nassar and Arwa Jouda discusses in the first episodes a problem faced by the husband which made him unable to have sex with his wife, while “For the higher price” series starring Nelly Karim and Zaina discusses one of the forbidden relationships within a family, where Nelly’s brother has an affair with his brother’s wife. “The sun won’t fade away” series starring Mervit Amin also discusses number of forbidden relationships, where actress Sherien Reda plays the character of a woman enters relations with younger men and actress Jamila Awad playes the role of a girl who is having an affair with her married music professor, along with number of swearing and cursing words in some other dramas such as “Ended smoothly”.
“Sunset Oasis” series starring Mena Shalaby and Khaled Al Nabawi was also criticized for having a homosexual character, and one of the scenes between Khaled Al Nabawi and one of the ladies inside the bathroom. Some people also criticized dancer Dina’s role in “The Lizard” series as they think she deliberately show the charms of her body through her way of walking.
Actress Reham Hagag was heavily criticized for her rape scene in “Security Situation” series with actor Amr Saad, where a lot of people said that, this scene is not a Ramadan material. She plays a local girl who works in a fish market, where her manager tries to rape her.
Actress Somya Al Khashab was also criticized on social media as she appeared during the first episodes of her series “Al Halal” wearing only a towel inside the ladies bathroom, along with number of seduction scenes during the first episodes.
Critic Zakia Derani said that, this isn’t the first time for such scenes, and drama makers always say that the artistic work is just an image of the reality whether in Ramadan month or any other month, and as long as these scenes are mirroring the reality, it is expected to see such bold scenes, as most of these makers wait this month to present their artistic and dramatic view because the viewing rate during Ramadan is usually too high. She said that, most of these series won’t be seen if broadcasted outside Ramadan season, so the audience should consider the series as an art and accept it with all its flaws or sees it as a Ramadan drama and judge it based on this fact.
Critic Rabie Awad Ferry sees that, creativity has no limits in presenting what it sees fit, and the audience must be realistic, because what is presented on the screen is just a mirror for the everyday life, so the makers shouldn’t be held responsibility for their work, as they only transfer what they see.
