Art v art in war against anti-Islam film
Arab singers teamed up with international artists to record an operetta titled \"Prophet of tolerance\" in response to an anti-Islam film which offends the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him). The first lines of the
operetta were given exclusively to Arabstoday,
Our religion is a religion of tolerance,
Our Prophet taught us this
Our Koran said forgive
All those who offend us
The operetta is a way of responding to the film “in a civilized manner, and the film-makers launched their war against us by using art, so we are also going to use art,” Egyptian singer Mohamed Adaweyah, who performed in the operetta, told Arabstoday.
He was joined by country-men Reham Abdel Hakim and Ahmed Gohar, who performed with Syria’s Majid Al Qassim. Spanish, Indian, Turkish and Kurdistani singers brought an international flavour to the offering, written by poet Abdel Moneim Taha and composed by Majid Al Qassim and Walid Husseini.
Taha said: \"We tried to make Arab and foreign singers participate in the operetta in order to make the operetta capture more attention, and particularly because we are going to translate it into English, French, German and Turkish.\"
The operetta will be filmed on Saturday by the director Tamer Harby.
Al Qassim said he was pleased to have participated in the operetta. \"I consider this to be the most practical response by the singers to the abusive film. I hope the operetta achieve the goal of its production,\" he added.
