Al Majaz Waterfront, Sharjah’s premier outdoor leisure destination, and Heart of Sharjah, will host a number of concerts on Saturday to Tuesday, 17 to 20 January, as part of Sharjah World Music Festival, an international musical event presented by Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and organised by Furat Qaddouri Music centre. These concerts will be open to the public to attend free of charge.
Visitors to Al Majaz Waterfront will enjoy a high-level musical concert featuring a performance by Furat Qaddouri Music Centre’s choir on Saturday, January 17 at 9:00 pm. The same venue will host Moldovan violin master Pasha Cazan on Sunday, January 18 also at 9:00 pm. A talented and creative violin player, Cazan uses the electric violin as a way to move away from the classical world of sound into a new modern era.
At Heart of Sharjah, the Canella Trio, composed of Bulgarian harpist Lidia Stankulova, Cuban flutist Malena Avila and Argentinean cellist Clara Asuaje, will present a blend of Western and Latin music on Monday, January 19 at 8:00 pm. Two hours later, visitors to Heart of Sharjah will be treated to an emotional and moving concert by celebrated oud player Sadiq Jaafar, one of the best Arab Oud players who is most famous for his album “Arabian Oud Nights”.
The festival’s concerts will continue at Heart of Sharjah on Tuesday, January 20 at 8:00 pm, with a performance by renowned Jordanian musician Kamal Mussalam, who will play on the guitar and will be accompanied by Francesca Palamidessi from Italy. Later on the same night at 10:00 pm, British guitarist Jason Carter will present a number of well known pieces, mixed with his own compositions. He will be accompanied by well-known vocalist Pepe Martinez who is well known for his flexibility and interest in many styles of music, from Flamenco to Jazz, Rock, Minimalist, and Theatre.
Presented by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and organised by Furat Qaddouri Music Centre, the first edition of the Sharjah World Music Festival took place at Al Qasba in Sharjah in the beginning of 2014. As a result of the resounding success and increasing public attention, it was decided to expand the festival to include five venues in the emirate of Sharjah. The venues are Al Majaz Amphitheatre, Al Majaz Waterfront, Al Qasba, Heart of Sharjah, and The Flag Island.
Through this first of its kind festival, Shurooq endeavours to boost the cultural and art presence of Sharjah and the UAE, bring various musical cultures from around the world to the UAE community and add a new cultural, art, and tourist product to Emirate which is celebrating its selection as Capital of Arab Tourism 2015.
