First Malayalam translation version of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum's book
The first Malayalam translation of an acclaimed book by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will be presented to Kerala's well-known author M. T. Vasudevan
Nair at a glittering function in Dubai World Trade Centre on Friday.
The book "Flashes of Thought: Challenges in the Race for Excellence”, authored by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, has now been translated into Malayalam, mother tongue of a large number of Indian expatriates in the UAE.
The Arabic original of the book titled "Royatee” was published in May this year.
Friday's function is organised by the Malayalam newspaper "Gulf Madhyamam” which is published from several places in the Gulf. It is part of "Ente Swantham Malayalam,” a year-long programme organised by the newspaper to celebrate the granting of the status of ‘classical language' to Malayalam by the Indian government.
Malayalam is the language of the South Indian state of Kerala, spoken by over 30 million people, and has a heritage of at least 2,300 years.
The chief guest at Friday's function will be Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman, Dubai Culture and Art Authority, who will hand over the first copy of the Malayalam translation of Sheikh Mohammed's book to M T Vasudevan Nair, author of several Malayalam books and recipient of India's highest ‘Jnanapeetham' literary award, said Hamsa Abbas, Editor in Chief of "Gulf Madhyamam.”
The Malayalam edition of the book is titled "Ente Darshanam : Mikavinayulla Malsarathile Velluvilikal” (My Vision : Challenges in the Race for Excellence)”.
Sheikh Mohammed's book, which addresses the people of UAE and the outside world, is all about the development model followed by the UAE and the challenges in the race for excellence in various fields.
The Malayalam edition of Sheikh Mohammed's book will also be handed over to 14 Keralite celebrities including film actors Mohanlal and Mammotty, singers K J Yesudas and K S Chithra, all of whom will be honoured at the function.
In the book, Sheikh Mohammed offers a detailed account of the transition of Dubai and UAE as international hubs for commerce and finance. Projecting Dubai as an example of extraordinary development based on excellent leadership, management, teamwork and timely decision-making, Sheikh Mohammed also reflects on the current state of the Arab world, which he describes as suffering from "a crisis of leadership and management”. The book is available in Arabic, English, Chinese and now in Malayalam. A Brail copy was released recently for the benefit of blind readers.
Translated into Malayalam by K C Sameer, the book has 13 chapters divided into five sections. The book analyses the development challenges and interventions by Sheikh Mohammed to transform a young nation into a role model for many other countries.
The 14 prominent Keralites who will receive signed copies of the book from Sheikh Majid include poetess Sugatha Kumari, film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Oscar winner Rasool Pookkutty, space scientist Dr G Madhavan Nair, cancer specialist Dr.Gangadharan, Kathakali artist Kalamandalam Gopi, architect G Shankar, magician G Muthukad and mappilapattu singer V M Kutty.
Prominent Indian businessmen will be attending the function in the Zabeel Hall of Dubai World Trade Centre on Friday evening which will be compered by Malayalam film director Siddique.
