Egypt centuries-old 'Hanging Church' in Old Cairo

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Diocese on Saturday inaugurated the renovated Hanging Church in Old Cairo.
The renovation process took 16 years.
Attending the inauguration ceremony were the ministers of industry, antiquities and local development.
A number of ambassadors and priests were also present.
Mahlab had a tour of the church and listened to an explanation about the renovation process.
The Hanging Church is one of the oldest churches in Egypt, possibly the first built in Basilican style.
The Hanging (the suspended) Church is named for its location above a gatehouse of Babylon Fortress, the Roman fortress in Old Cairo; its nave is suspended over a passage.
