Former Iraqi Foreign Minister Adnan al-Pachachi

Former Iraqi Foreign Minister Adnan al-Pachachi Baghdad – Arabstoday Former Iraqi Foreign Minister and Representative to the United Nations Adnan al-Pachachi has published his memoirs from years of exile and power, in a book entitled \"Adnan Al-Pachachi: In The Eye Of The Storm\". Now the 90-year-old secular politician will publish them in English for the first time.
Pachachi has traced his life from birth, youth and education right through to the later stages of a career in politics and diplomacy. He has also not held back in his remarks about the present situation in Iraq, telling al-Arabiya the country was a “failed state by all means.”
“Sorrow fills my heart that the Arab Spring has skipped Iraq,” he writes in his book’s prologue. “The wind of change that toppled regimes and rulers didn’t reach the country.”
Pachachi officially left politics three years ago after serving in the Sunni-dominated Iraqiya List party. He spent much of Saddam Hussein’s reign in exile, returning in 2003 to work to break down Iraq’s increasingly sectarian society.
“Americans allowed a sectarian-based political system due to their beliefs that Iraqis are divided by their sectarian and ethnic background and that the political assembly must represent this truth,” Pachachi told al-Arabiya.
The Iraqiya List politician has written a series of searing denunciations of the spread of terrorism and sectarian divisions in modern-day Iraqi society. He believes an Arab Style upheaval is “inevitable” inside the country.
