Under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Abu Dhabi Art (20th - 23rd November) was officially opened
last night by H.H Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, in the presence of a host of dignitaries.
The dignitaries who attended the opening included Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism '&' Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Health, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Shakhbut bin Nahyan and TCA Abu Dhabi's Director-General, Mubarak Al Muhairi, as well as recognisable figures from the international art world including French Culture Minister, Aurelie Filippetti, architects Jean Nouvel and Shigeru Ban, Jean-Luc Martinez, President-Director of the Musee Du Louvre, Richard Armstrong, Director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation, in addition to other Directors, collectors and VIPs of museums, institutions and galleries from all over the world.
Abu Dhabi Art is held at the UAE Pavilion and Manarat Al Saadiyat, the art exhibition centre on Saadiyat Island. The fifth edition welcomes 50 galleries from around the world, exhibiting modern contemporary art and design, and features its most diverse programme, addressing key ideas in the art and design sector, a significant participation of Emirati art and the largest number of large-scale installations to date.
Abu Dhabi Art, organised by Abu Dhabi Tourism '&' Culture Authority, is an annual platform for modern and contemporary art and design, held from 20th-23rd November 2013. Sponsored by Julius Baer, the leading Swiss private banking group with a focus on serving and advising sophisticated private clients, Abu Dhabi Art is held at Manarat Al Saadiyat and the iconic UAE Pavilion on Saadiyat Island
