Irina Bokova, Director General of UNESCO and Abulfas Qarayev, Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan signed a framework agreement on cooperation
between UNESCO and the Republic of Azerbaijan on July 18.
The signing took place at UNESCO headquarters in Paris and the ceremony was attended by the First Lady of Azerbaijan and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva. As reported on the UNESCO website, the agreement includes a financial contribution of $5 million to UNESCO.
In her speech at the ceremony, the Director General thanked Mehriban Aliyeva for her continued efforts and expressed her gratitude for the donation. Azerbaijan’s cooperation with UNESCO has expanded over 20 years in education, the sciences, communication and culture.
Aliyeva commented “I am sure that this agreement will contribute to propaganda of ideals and principles of UNESCO in the world.”
