Face-off between Ricky Burns and José González
Scotland's Ricky Burns wants his fans to give José González an early taste of the noise he'll face on fight night when the pair weigh-in for the clash at the St Enoch's Centre in Glasgow on Friday.
Burns defends his WBO lightweight title against the mandatory challenger from Puerto Rico on Saturday night and the Coatbridge star has asked his fans to turn out in force as they hit the scales on Friday.
"It would be great to get all the fans down to the St Enoch's Centre and show José what he's got in store on Saturday night," said Burns.
"The atmosphere in the Emirates Arena is going to be electric and he'll never have experienced anything like it before.
"I believe I've got the best fans in the world and the noise they made last time out against Kevin Mitchell was incredible. It gave me a massive lift and they played a huge part in the best night of my career so far.
"I'm looking forward to more of the same on Saturday night, but it all really starts with the weigh-in and we need them there on Friday to show just how passionate us Scots are about our boxing."
Burns' promoter Eddie Hearn has unveiled plans to net his fighter a cool £2million in a unification showdown with current WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner at Hampden.
Hearn said: "I expect we’ll have 6000 here on Saturday which is fantastic but it does hold 7500 and we could get 10,000 if we put more seats here and there.
"If we got the Vazquez fight we could sell this place out in a heartbeat because it would be a unification fight. I’d like to get to the stage where we could get Burns v Broner on Box Office and it could be outdoors at Hampden and Burns could get a couple of million quid.
"That’s the promised land but we have a long way to go until then."
Burns and González head a top class bill in Glasgow as John Simpson faces Choi Tseveenpurev for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental super featherweight title and top Scottish talent including unbeaten trio David Brophy, Jon Slowey and Stephen Simmons, who takes on Michael Sweeney in a ten round Celtic cruiserweight clash.
