Muscat – Ali Al Wahbi
Omani goalkeeper Ali al-Habsi has vowed to stay at English club Wigan Athletic despite its relegation to the Championship, the second division
of English football.
Al-Habsi has denied receiving offers from other clubs for his services, and says he wants to payback Wigan for their \"trust and confidence\" in him.
Speaking at his home in Muscat, the goalkeeper praised medical staff at the Lancashire club for supporting him during a three-month spell on the sidelines following shoulder surgery.
He rubbished rumours of a bid from Liverpool, and reiterated his desire to stay with Wigan.
The 31-year-old put his moderate success in European leagues down to patience, and explained that had to see the tough times before the good.
Al-Habsi disclosed that his father didn\'t want him to be a footballer, but that drove him to make his father proud.
After making just 10 appearances in five seasons at Bolton, al-Habsi joined Wigan in 2010 and was handed the number one jersey.
The Oman international has played more than 100 games for the Latics, and is also a regular in the Oman national team.
