Defender, 2 strikers to undergo medical examinations
Ahly defender Sherif Abdel-Fadil sustained a calf injury during his team’s 2-0 win over Ghazl Mahalla on Saturday. He is expected to undergo a medical examination on Monday to determine the seriousness
of his injury.
“The stadium’s bad [uneven] ground was the reason for my injury,” Abdel-Fadil told Ahram Online. “I asked the technical staff to replace me in the first half after I was hurt.”
“I won’t be able to take part in the coming friendly against Bayern Munich on Saturday, since I will begin a rehabilitation programme following Monday’s medical examination,” he added.
The Cairo giants’ striker, Emad Meteb, who is reportedly suffering from back problems, was also absent from Monday’s training session.
“Meteb will undergo medical tests on Monday to determine if he can take part in Thursday’s game with El-Gaish,” an Ahly doctor told Ahram on Monday.
The participation of Mauritanian hitman Dominique Da Silva and goalkeeper Sherif Ekrami – both of whom have also recently sustained injuries – are likewise in doubt for the coming game against Gaish in the 12th matchday of the Egyptian Premier League on Thursday.
“Da Silva is scheduled to undergo muscle scans,” said the doctor, going on to predict that the player would “soon return to the training sessions.”
The 36-time Egyptian Premier League champions are also awaiting the return of defender Rami Rabea at the end of this week. Rabea, too, is waiting to complete an ongoing medical rehabilitation programme following a recent injury.
Ahly are currently at second place in the Egyptian Premier League table with 23 points – two behind surprise leaders Harras El-Hodoud, who have played one game more
