Foreign Minister Saad Eddine El Othmani meets with Tunisian leader Moncef Marzouki  Rabat - Radoune Mabchour Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Saad Eddine El Othmani met with Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki on Tuesday in the Qatari capital of Doha, it has been confirmed. Othmani and Marzouki are in the city to attend the 24th summit of the Arab League. The summit, designed to discuss issues in the region, has been in the news after the Arab League became the first international body to offer the Syrian opposition an official seat on its council on Tuesday.
Speaking to news agency Maghreb Arab Presse, Othmani revealed that the meeting with President Marzouki focused on economic policies between the two countries.
Othmani also revealed that Tunisia and Morocco is currently in the process of reviving the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU), a trade agreement between Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Tunisia’s Foreign Minister Usman Jernda said the AMU “remains the only solution to meet the social, economic and political challenges facing these countries."
Othmani’s visit comes as the monarch of Morocco, King Mohammed VI, boycotted the Arab League summit, saying the despite years of meetings “nothing has changed.”
