Tankers carrying fuel were filmed by a Future channel cameraman
Two Lebanese television channels have revealed the smuggling of diesel from the country into Syria, in direct contravention of Arab League and United Nations sanctions
.Future and Murr TV unearthed the smuggling operation, following reports of a fuel-running route along the Zahrani highway to Sidon, before heading across the Syrian border.
A recent convoy, consisting of some 25 large tankers with Syrian plates, unloaded fuel from Lebanon’s Zahrani refinery before waiting until nightfall to smuggle it across the border. A Future channel cameraman was on the scene to film the activity.
The two stations quoted informed sources saying who claimed each tank smuggles some 10,000 litres of fuel, inculcating the country’s Energy Ministry with the operation.
Future and Murr TV meanwhile accused the Lebanese government of flagrantly ignoring international sanctions imposed by the UN and Arab League, which prohibits any material support to the Syrian regime.
