Egypt\'s government to dissolve Muslim Brotherhood party Egypt’s General Federation of Associations and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO’s), agreed on plans to dissolve the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood political party, during a meeting at the department’s headquarters in Cairo. Head of the federation, Hatem Khater said the delegation agreed on a consensus to de-register the political party, according to notification 2522, sent to the Ministry of Social ?Solidarity, on August 18.
Khater said the federation’s decision was not legally binding, but would form the bases of a court ruling which would consider violations committed by the Brotherhood whilst it was in power.
He accused members of the group of using party headquarters in the Mokattam district of Cairo to store weapons which were allegedly used against security forces as they dispersed supporters of detained Brotherhood leader, former President Mohammed Morsi.
The ministry is waiting to hear evidence from the accused party over allegation that certain members fired live bullets at civilians from the Mokattam base.
According to the Ministry of Social Solidarity, the Muslim Brotherhood has failed to attend two hearing sessions on August 20 and 27, to represent the group against the accusations.
In its absence the ministry said it has issued a decree to dissolve the party.
