Doha - Adel Salama
Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali Al-Thani has called on the ruling family and the people of Qatar to a national, family and fraternal meeting to discuss the crisis and set the record straight. Sheikh Abdullah said in a statement on Sunday that he “felt pain at seeing the dispute going from bad to worse,” reaching direct provocation against the Gulf stability and intervening in others’ affairs.
He affirmed that during his two meetings with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz he saw the king’s keenness on the safety of Qatar and its people. Sheikh Abdullah expressed concern that the fate of his country would become similar to other states that ended in chaos and destruction, saying “we can no longer remain silent in this crisis.”
He asserted that his statement is not aimed at showing off but he is optimistic towards serving his citizens and facilitating their affairs in the kingdom.
On his hand, Qatari opponent Khalid Al Hail criticized the ruling authority in Qatar, saying that Qatar is a constitutional monarchy. It is in there in the constitution but the constitution has never been implemented.
People say they go to Qatar and the people in the street all support Tamim. It’s ridiculous. No one is going to discuss these things openly,” he said. “Look what happened to me. Tamim called me personally and told me I could come back and that everything would be okay. When I got there, I was arrested and spent 22 days in the security. The Qatari regime will never fulfil any of his promises to anyone.”
Pointing to Qatar’s history of deposing its serving emirs, Mr Al Hail says the current leader and his father have grown distant from their citizenry.
On the other hand, tribal leaders of Al Mora tribe held a meeting to rebuke the measures taken by the Qatari ruling family against its members living in Qatar territories. They warned that such measures will not be accepted by the tribal leaders.
They stressed that the latest measures come in the framework of the unfair measures taken by the Qatari authorities against the members of tribe. They described these measures as a clear violation against the human rights, demanding the human rights organization to take the legal measures against Qatar’s emir as soon as possible
