A Bangkok University Poll indicates that 79.8% of Bangkok residents will travel within the country during the cool season through to February next year. Released late last week, the survey interviewed 1,177 Bangkokians, 8 to 11 November, in 26 city districts. It indicated that close to 80% of residents interviewed said they were planning to travel during the next three months. The 20% who were not sure or had decided not to travel said the main obstacles were: work (10.5%); expensive costs of accommodation and food (4.4%); house and car payments (3.6%); prefer to travel overseas (1.0%); and health problems (0.7%). Those who said they were planning travel said they would go with their families (40.4%) friends (21.3%); and 19.1% said they intended to give their lover a travel treat. On spending trends, 19.4% budgeted Bt10,000 per day, per person followed by Bt5,000 (24.0%); Bt4,000 (5.8%); Bt3,000 (12.7%); and Bt2,000 (9.0%). A recent weather forecast suggested a cooler than average season was on the way and 21.8% of those interviewed said it would drive Bangkokian to travel more, 56.7% said it would not impact on travel and 21.5% predicted travel would decline this year. On TAT promotions, 26.8% of the respondents said they had seen TAT promotions, while the majority said they were not aware of the government agency’s activities in the domestic market.
