The Sharjah Airport Authority is promoting the Sharjah International Airport regionally and internationally, and presenting its competitive strengths in air cargo operations in the UAE and region, during its participation in Air Cargo Europe 2017, which is taking place from 9th to 12th May in Munich, Germany.
Sharjah International Airport is a leading air cargo hub in the region, with five cargo terminals that have a total floor area of 32,000 square meters, in addition to cargo aircraft parking spaces, equipped to handle 16 aircrafts of different types at the same time, said the Sharjah Airport Authority.
The airport has a proven track record of handling large volumes of cargo annually, providing a one stop hub for the rapid handling of air cargo operations.
The Sharjah airport successfully handles sensitive cargo shipments which require the presence of a multidisciplinary team to inspect the consignment immediately. Its performance is consistently excellent when it comes to the arrival of endangered species of animals that must be immediately transported to their cages in the dedicated protected areas, the authority said.
Moreover, it handles shipments of medicines and medical materials that are subject to thorough examination to ensure that they have the necessary approvals and compliance with health requirements to ensure proper access to medical warehouses.
Chairman of the Sharjah Airport Authority Ali Salim Al Midfa said, "We look forward to exchanging ideas and exploring the best ways to increase the growth rate of air cargo globally, following the emergence of alternative solutions that have affected the conventional air cargo activities".
Sharjah International Airport has become a major destination on the international air freight map. The development includes an air freight centre and modern equipment to provide superior services and facilities to air cargo agents, Al Midfa concluded.
The biennial Air Cargo Europe is the world’s leading trade fair for logistics, mobility, IT and supply chain management. It provides an ideal platform for aviation and air cargo professionals to network, discuss the current challenges and stay abreast with the latest technologies.
