Frankfurt - XINHUA
The Frankfurt airport on Friday advised passengers not to come to the airport because of a strike staged by security staff asking for a pay rise. "We kindly request that originating passengers no longer come to the airport, because they will have no possibility of getting to their flight," said a statement on the website of the airport. Robert Payne, an international spokesman of Fraport, clarified that the airport was not closed and confirmed that 74 flights had been cancelled so far. A total of 1,300 flights are scheduled for the whole day. Some airlines are helping their customers rearrange their trips by train to destinations in Germany and some cities in neighbouring countries. The Verdi union called the strike on Friday due to which security controls for passengers leaving from Frankfurt could not be carried out.
