Arrivals to Malaysia are unlikely to grow admits the national Tourism Minister due to carious external factors. Still confident of hitting the 25 million arrivals target, Dr Ng Yen Yen told the Malaysia Star that global economic conditions were causing arrivals from Europe and the US to stagnate, while arrivals from disaster-hit Japan are probably down. There is also strong competition from destinations across the region with neighbour Singapore recently opening a new Universal Studios theme park for example. Confident in its strategy, the ministry will persist with its current marketing campaigns, which target high spending visitors from emerging markets including China, India, Middle East and Russia.
