African union envoy Alpha oumar konare

Former Malian president and AU High Representative for South Sudan Alpha Oumar Konare left Cairo on Wednesday after a three-day visit during which he held talks with Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.

The talks tackled Konare's mission to follow up the implementation of the peace deal signed between South Sudanese President Salva Kiir and former Vice President Riek Machar in August, as well as hurdles blocking the implementation of the peace deal.

Konare congratulated Sisi on the completion of roadmap plan obligations, lauding the progress realized by Egypt on the political track.

The South Sudan peace deal aims at restoring peace and stability after 21 months of deadly conflict in the world’s youngest nation.

During his meeting with Shoukry, Konare was keen to listen to Egypt's assessment of the situation in South Sudan and ways of overcoming hurdles to the signed peace deal in light of the repeated violations by the two sides.
