Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has launched its new Work Zone Traffic Management Guide.The launch made at a special ceremony held at Hilton Doha today in the presence of Engineer Nasser Ali Al Mawlali Presiedent of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), who officially launched the guide. The event was attended by senior officials from the traffic department at the ministry of interior in addition to local and international contractors and consultants.Developed by Ashghal to replace the existing traffic control and road works guide, the new Work Zone Traffic Management Guide directs construction contractors and associated entities on safety policies and procedures that need to be adhered to at all national and local roads projects.The new strategy and related policies and procedures are being mandated in all Ashghal contracts, and existing projects have six months to comply with the new stipulation.Engineer Nasser Ali Al Mawlali said “The guidelines in the Work Zone Traffic Management Guide are intended to reduce construction workers exposure to the hazards to traffic, and it offers road users consistence and positive guidance at work zone areas”“The new guide will improve traffic management around work sites as it prescribes best international safely standards and regulations.” He added.Adopting international best practices and procedures, the guide outlines strict work zone safety measures to ensure a road environment that is safe for all road users and workers during construction works, while facilitation access and traffic flow.Aimed at providing al agencies, authorities, consultants and contractors engaged in road works with clear and comprehensive guidance on traffic management measures, the guide sets uniform standard of traffic control at work zones across Qatar.In addition to describing temporary traffic measures that are meant to be used at work zones across all road networks to warn, instruct , and guide road users, the book also describes the special signs to be used at work zones, and the process that must be followed to ensure compliance
