AirAsia has launched a new service offering transfers to five of Thailand’s most popular resort islands. Passengers are now able to book transfer services to Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta and Koh Lipe, as part of their AirAsia flight itinerary. “We noticed that most travellers to the southern provinces of Phuket, Surat Thani, Krabi, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Hat Yai continue on to either Samui, Phangan, Phi Phi, Lanta or Lipe Island, so it made sense for us to offer transfers to the islands alongside our ticketing service,” said Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia. The ‘Easy Island Transfer’ service allows passengers to choose one of the five islands as a destination. AirAsia’s online booking system will then automatically select the nearest airport to the island. Upon arrival to the airport, a vehicle will collect the passengers and transport them to the pier, where they will be picked up by local ferry operators. The transfers to Samui, Phangnan and Phi Phi will be available from 15 October 2012, with Lanta and Lipe commencing from 1 November. The scheme is similar the that adopted by another Thai low-cost carrier, Nok Air, which offers tickets from Bangkok to eight Thai islands, including the five offered by AirAsia. From traveldailymedia
