Turkish Airlines starts direct Istanbul to Sharm airport flight

A Turkish Airlines plane landed at Sharm El Sheikh International Airport early Sunday, the first in almost ten months after the crash of a Russian plane in Sinai in October of 2015.

The plane is carrying 154 tourists of various nationalities and will return home with 80 on board, said head of Sharm el Sheikh city Mahmoud Soliah who was at the airport to welcome the tourists.

He added that four Turkish flights will land at Sharm airport weekly.

On Saturday, Turkey announced resuming flights to the Red Sea tourist resort after it was suspended following the Russian Metrojet crash in October that left all 224 passengers and crew dead.

The plane crashed shortly after it took off from Sharm el Sheikh airport.
