Maja Haderlap, a 50-year-old Austrian author of Slovenian origin, was awarded the Ingeborg Bachmann prize Sunday for her first novel, \"Angels of Oblivion\". The 35th edition of the 25,000-euro award ($35,000) named after an Austrian poet who died in 1973 is one of the highest German language literary distinctions. The prizes were announced after three days of readings at a festival at Klagenfurt, capital of the Austrian state of Carinthia. Haderlap writes both in German and Slovenian. Her wartime debut novel (\"Engel des Vergessens\" in its original German title) is to be published on Monday.
