German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit Egypt and Tunisia March 2-3, according to a statement by the German government.
Merkel will hold talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
Merkel met Sisi five times in a year and a half as their first meeting took place in Berlin in June of 2015. They also met in other occasions, including the G20 summit in addition to phone conversations between the two leaders, the government said.
Egyptian-German relations are very good as trade between the two countries hit five billion euros in 2016 while German investments in Egypt are estimated at 12.5 billion euros.
Energy cooperation tops German investments in Egypt, the latest of which was the signing of the first investment project between Siemens and power generation stations in Egypt.
In earlier statements, Egyptian Ambassador to Germany Badr Abdel Aati said the German side views Egypt as the stability pivot of the region while Cairo views Germany as the biggest economy in Europe and the fourth worldwide.
