US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will visit China on Saturday-Sunday at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Wednesday.

According to spokesperson Hua Chunying, China and the United States will exchange views on bilateral ties as well as regional and international issues of common concern, reported the Chinese news agency Xinhua.

On Tuesday, Hua said China and the United States are maintaining close contact on exchanges between their presidents and at other levels.

Spokesperson Hua Chunying made the remarks at a daily press briefing in response to media reports that U.S. President Donald Trump will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in the near future.

"Both China and the United States attach great importance to exchanges at the high-level and various other levels," said Hua at the press briefing.

She said the two sides are keeping in close contact on exchanges between their presidents and at other levels.
