Sameh Shoukry &Martin Kobler

Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry received on Thursday UN special envoy to Libya Martin Kobler and discussed political and security conditions in Libya.

The meeting also touched upon issues that hamper the political process in Tripoli, means of backing Libyan parties concerned and encouraging them to hammer out the accord needed to implement Sukhairat agreement.

On that score, Shoukry underscored the importance of the UN-brokered agreement on Libya as a basis of restoring stability and activating the role of Libya's national institutions, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

Egypt's top diplomat, meanwhile, pointed to the meeting held in Cairo on Monday and Tuesday and grouped a host of key Libyan figures. The conferees reviewed the main and central issues in the conflict-torn country.

Cairo's meeting underlined the importance of giving all Libyans the right to self-determination and positive involvement in the inter-Libyan dialogue without excluding any faction, Abu Zeid noted.

Kobler congratulated Egypt on the success of the meeting it hosted and the proposals it drew up, noting that Cairo has a leading role in solving the Libyan crisis, in light of its contact with all Libyan parties, said the spokesman.

For his part, Shoukry voiced Egypt's full support for the role played by the UN representative in Libya, stressing that Cairo is constantly ready to support his efforts.
