His Royal Highness Prince Zeid Bin Raad was sworn in before UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon as High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary General Farhan Haq said the swearing in ceremony took place at the UN Headquarters in New York on Thursday.
His Highness assumed his new position last Monday to be the seventh individual to lead the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
Following the General Assembly’s approval of his appointment by the United Nations secretary general on July 16, Prince Zeid became the first Muslim, Asian and Arab to hold the post.
Prince Zeid was Jordan’s permanent representative to the United Nations in New York, Jordan’s ambassador to the United States and deputy permanent representative to the UN, with the rank of ambassador.
