Minister Hani al-Mulki

Prime Minister Hani al-Mulki, on Monday, received Acting Assistant Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Maria Longi.

The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the U.S. constant support to Jordan, which effectively contributes to achieving national development goals.

Al-Mulki commended the USAID’s role, programs and projects in developing vital sectors in Jordan such as health, education, local development and water.

The premier reviewed challenges facing the Jordanian economy as a result of the region’s unstable situation and hosting about 1.3 million Syrian refugees and its repercussions on basic sectors.

He underlined the importance of supporting the budget to cover operational expenses of infrastructure projects that have been completed to serve host communities of Syrian refugees.

The U.S. official emphasized the importance of the real partnership between the agency the Jordanian government, adding that the USAID will continue supporting development projects in Jordan.

Longi said she understood Jordan’s burden of hosting Syrian refugees and the importance of supporting the Kingdom to continue to provide basic services to citizens and refugees.
