Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al Jaafari discussed today with the Deputy Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Gyorgy Busztin, the efforts of the international organization to help the country, as well as the war against ISIS in Mosul and the rest of Iraq.
During the meeting, Al Jaafari called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities towards the Iraqis who are engaged in a fierce war against ISIS "on behalf of the entire world", stressing that the operation of retaking Mosul from ISIS has become "only a matter of time." He called on the United Nations to provide more assistance to the Iraqi government to meet its humanitarian obligations towards the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in a number of areas in Iraq, and to prepare for the stage of rebuilding cities and villages after being cleared of ISIS militants.
For his part, Busztin said that the United Nations continues to support Iraq in the war against ISIS, stressing the need for concerted international efforts to eliminate the militant group.
