Minister of Interior Ghalib Zoubi said that the cost of hosting Syrian refugees in Jordan is not limited to shelters and relief services, but also includes security and protection challenges.
The minister made the remarks during a meeting with visiting Canadian Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Ahmed Hussen, who is in Amman to discuss the latest developments in the Syrian crisis and ways to fight terrorism.
Zoubi praised the huge humanitarian role played by Canada, which hosted thousands of Syrian refugees, thus easing the burden on Jordan.
Jordanians share their resources with Syrian and other refugees, despite the limited resources in the Kingdom, the minister told the Canadian official. Jordan, the minister added, is not capable to carry out this duty anymore, because of the huge burden added by the refugees and because of the absence of any possibilities to find a solution to the Syrian crisis.
On terrorism, Minister Zoubi said that Jordan is at the forefront of regional and international efforts to fight terrorism and extremism.
The Canadian official, on his part, said that Jordan is doing a great job in hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees. He also reiterated his country’s support to the Jordanian policies, while promising more support to countries affected by the Syrian refugees crisis.
