Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza received United Nations Resident Coordinator and Resident

Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza received United Nations Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative Amin Al-Sharqawi and discussed mechanisms to encourage the private sector to support and invest in the solar energy market in line with the goals of sustainable development.
“The use of solar energy has many benefits as it is a clean energy that does not affect the environment and it also provides the gas consumed in generating electricity,” said Dr. Mirza. “The cost of production has also decreased significantly in recent times.”

Al-Sharqawi said that the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is working to support the Sustainable Energy Unit by providing the necessary technical expertise to achieve the objectives of the National Renewable Energy Plan. He said this will support Bahrain in achieving the goals of sustainable development, energy efficiency and renewable energy.

He said he was hopeful renewable energy would constitute five per cent of total energy use in Bahrain by 2025.
