Al Azhar Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmed el Tayyeb on Monday expressed the institution's readiness to cooperate with the Indian Government in the fields of training the country's imams and confronting deviant ideas.
Receiving Indian Ambassador in Cairo Sanjay Bhattacharyya, Tayyeb hailed the progress made by India at all levels.
He added that Azhar spares no effort to protect the young people from extremist ideologies and to correct the erroneous image of Islam.
For his part, Bhattacharyya stressed the depth of relations binding his country with Egypt as well as Al Azhar.
He underscored that Al Azhar represents the message of Islam which is based on tolerance and co-existence between different religions.
The ambassador extended an invitation to Tayyeb to visit India, which is a home of 180 million Muslims.
