The Assistant Foreign Minister, Abdulla bin Faisal bin Jabur Al-Doseri, affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to respect human rights and protect its freedoms, legally and in practice, in order to implement legal procedures in combating extremism and terrorism. He also stressed the importance of establishing justice and activating the principle of constructive partnership with local, regional and international human rights bodies, including cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The Assistant Foreign Minister also stressed that freedom of opinion and expression, peaceful assembly, association, trade unions, and the exercise of political and human rights activities are guaranteed in accordance with the Constitution and laws, provided they are on national grounds and for lawful and peaceful purposes, without prejudice to the fundamentals of religion, public order, sect, class, gender, origin, language, religion or creed, and not to incite racial, national or religious hatred.
In a meeting between Al-Doseri and the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, the Assistant Foreign Minister expressed his appreciation of the vital role played by the High Commissioner in promoting and protecting human rights.
They meeting discussed ways to enhance bilateral work and means to benefit from the expertise and programmes carried out by the Commission.
The Assistant Foreign Minister extended an official invitation to the High Commissioner for Human Rights to visit the Kingdom of Bahrain in order to raise the level of cooperation in various areas, including technical support programme, capacity building and exchange of experiences.
The High Commissioner welcomed the Assistant Foreign Minister and his accompanying delegation, and praised the Kingdom of Bahrain’s keenness to cooperate with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to develop joint action to achieve common goals in the promotion of human rights.
The High Commissioner also extended his thanks and appreciation for the kind invitation, which he said work will be carried out in this regard in the near future.
