Winners of the Hamdan International Photography Award (HIPA) were announced in Dubaion Monday.Fuyang Zhou from China won the top prize of $120,000 for his photograph "Overall Grand Prize Winner".American photojournalist Steve McCurry won the Photography Appreciation Award for being "one of the most iconic voices in contemporary photography for more than thirty years."McMurry is known for his portraits, most notably, the famous "Afghan Girl" photo, which was named as "the most recognized photograph" in the history of the National Geographic magazine.Ren Ng, founder and executive chairman at Lytro, was awarded the Photographic Research/Report Award for introducing the first light field camera for consumers.Monday's closing ceremony was attended by DubaiCrown Prince Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.Anadolu Agency was a guest in the closing ceremony. A total of 38,203 photographs from 156 countries have vied in the four categories in this year's competition: Black and White, General, Street Life, with an overall theme of Creating the Future.Each category has a number of runner-up images, as well as separate prizes for United Arab Emirates (UAE) entrants, which are designed to encourage photography in the UAE.
